Reading and Writing
It is important for children to be exposed to books. Listening to an adult read books expands a child's vocabulary. Having your child use the pictures to tell a story on their own builds literacy skills. Giving your child plain paper, markers, and other materials allows them to create letters without pressure. Using materials such as playdough, wikki stix, sand or shaving cream allows your child to practice correct letter formation.

SHAVING CREAM LETTERS:
For this activity, start by squirting a dollop of shaving cream onto a tray. Invite your child to use their hands to spread it out so the shaving cream would cover the entire tray. Call out letters for them to “write” in the shaving cream. I like for the children to practice writing the letters in their first name. The best part about writing letters in shaving cream is how easy it is to “erase” a letter in case of a mistake or simply when it is time to write another letter. You can make it even a science experiment....add yellow and red food coloring drops to make orange shaving cream.
